Third day of DU Open Days packed with aspirants

New Delhi: The third day of the Delhi University's admission process on Wednesday saw several undergraduate admission seekers participating in the Open Days session, organised by Delhi University to familiarise applicants with the admission process for the 2018 session.
Their queries pertained to the admission process, how to select best four, the cut-off calculation, sports, extracurricular activities (ECA) quota and several other issues.
"We had received grievances last year, stating that students were not allowed to make changes once they submitted the forms. And they often missed the opportunity to study in DU due to careless mistakes in the form.
"For example, nearly 10 per cent of the students last year filled the wrong gender field in the form. There is nothing the University can do if an applicant makes such an error," an official said at the session said.
He informed that parents should accompany their wards to avoid the last moment trouble during the admission process.
The official added that often mistakes creep in because students do not fill the form themselves. "We urged them to avoid getting their forms filled by others."
Officials associated with the admission process said a total of 1,73,340 applications have been received so far.
Among them, 1,05,455 are merit-based applications and 43,540 are entrance-based application. The number of male applicants is 71,266, while the number of female applicants is 59,958 and 33 applicants were in the others category.
Deputy Dean, Students' Welfare, Gurpreet Tuteja, said, "This year, there is only one form for merit-based courses and entrance-based course at the undergraduate level."
