Temple donation box thefts: 4 apprehended
NEW DELHI: The Delhi Police has arrested an individual and apprehended three juveniles for the theft of temple donation boxes.
The accused has been identified as Vikas (19) son of Shankar resident of Indra camp, Vikaspuri, Delhi.
According to the police reports, the gang was responsible for multiple thefts, including a recent incident where Rs 25,000-30,000 were stolen from a temple in Himgiri Apartments, Vikaspuri.
The case was registered on November 25, at Vikaspuri Police Station, prompting the formation of a dedicated police team under the supervision of Inspector Rajveer Singh and ACP Tilak Nagar Surender Singh Rathee. The team, comprising SI Deepak Vashist, HC Sandeep, HC Rabit, HC Manoj, HC Dinesh, and CT Karambeer, employed advanced surveillance techniques and analysed CCTV footage.
Secret informers provided crucial leads, enabling the team to identify and apprehend the accused on December 10.
During the raid, police recovered a portion of the stolen amount and clothing worn by the suspects during the crime. Investigations revealed that the accused, all school dropouts, were influenced by bad company. They exploited unrestricted access to temples, stole from donation boxes, and extended their activities to snatching and burglaries in other locations.
Police are conducting further inquiries to trace other incidents linked to the gang. The operation underscores the importance of community vigilance and effective policing in tackling crimes affecting places of worship.
