Teachers' Day: SDMC honours teachers

New Delhi: On the occasion of Teachers' Day on Wednesday, South Delhi Municipal Corporation (SDMC) presented Municipal awards to six principals, 26 primary teachers, two nursery teachers and one special teacher for their remarkable contribution in disseminating knowledge to the students in the schools. Lieutenant-Governor Anil Baijal, while presenting the awards, said that teachers have been opening doors of knowledge for the students and they also disseminate values to them.

He added that this day is celebrated every year to pay rich tributes to former President Dr S Radhakrishnan and remember him for his contribution in nation building. Baijal further stated that the tendency of "Chalta Hai" must be stopped so that everybody could seriously contribute in their respective field.

While appreciating the achievements of SDMC and its Education Department, Baijal stressed upon the need of publicizing the achievements. The good work must be communicated to the society, he said.

He said that Dr Radhakrishnan was a well known philosopher and educationist who used to involve himself deeply in the social works.

The Commissioner Puneet Kumar Goel in his welcome address stated that SDMC is in the process of commissioning a Science Museum at Tagore Garden for which an amount of Rs 25 core is being collected from the corporate social responsibility fund of the companies.
