Taxi passenger, driver killed in Noida Link Road collision

NEW DELHI: A late-night accident on the Noida Link Road claimed two lives and left one injured when a black Mahindra Bolero hit the central verge, crossed over to the opposite lane, and collided with two cars.

The police were alerted about the incident through a PCR call at the Mayur Vihar Police Station.

The deceased were identified as Suman Dhoopra wife of Sanjeev Dhoopra, and Arjun Singh Solanki son of Shishupal Singh.

According to the police, the tragic incident occurred at approximately 1:14 a.m. and involved three vehicles, a white Tata EV taxi, a white Maruti Baleno, and the Bolero.

According to initial reports, the black Mahindra Bolero, heading from Delhi to Noida, struck the central divider before crashing into a Maruti Baleno traveling from Noida to Delhi. The impact caused the Bolero to fall onto a Tata EV taxi, leading to devastating consequences.

The deceased have been identified as Suman Dhoopra, a passenger in the taxi, and Arjun Singh Solanki, the taxi driver.

The injured passenger, Sanjeev Dhoopra, Suman’s husband, was rushed to Kailash Hospital in Sector 27, Noida, where doctors declared Suman dead on arrival.

Sanjeev remains hospitalised and is currently unfit to give a statement. The driver’s body was sent to LBS Hospital for post-mortem examination.

Aakash, the driver of the Maruti Baleno and the complainant in the case, provided details of the accident.

He stated that the Bolero, traveling at high speed, lost control after hitting the central verge, causing the collision. The driver of the Bolero fled the scene immediately after the crash.

Police registered a case under an FIR on the statement of Aakash at Mayur Vihar Police Station. The charges include sections 281 (rash driving), 106(1) (culpable homicide not amounting to murder), and 324(3) (causing hurt by a dangerous act) under the Indian Penal Code.

Authorities have begun an investigation to locate the absconding driver and determine the exact cause of the accident.

The incident has raised concerns about road safety on the busy Noida Link Road, particularly during late-night hours.

Local residents and commuters have long voiced complaints about inadequate lighting and poor traffic management on the stretch.
