After a series of arguments over trivial issues between two neighbours in West Delhi's Subhash Nagar area, several men took the law into their own hands and went on a rampage brandishing swords and attacking a resident's house on Friday.
The entire incident was captured on CCTV footage, where a group of men could be seen hurling abuses and brandishing swords. They tried to break into the house of the complainant in the case, Mahesh Arora, but were unable to break through the main gate.
Five people were injured, after sustaining cut injuries to their hands. They have been identified as Karan (23), Rajesh (34), Rupam (27), Chair Kumar (49) and Vijay (20). All the injured were taken to Deen Dayal Upadhay Hospital and later discharged. Police have identified most of the attackers and efforts are on to round up all the accused.
The incident took place on Friday afternoon near Subhash Nagar's Cambridge Foundation School. According to Arora, the attackers and some other residents had been having minor confrontations over the past year. The attackers would allegedly create ruckus in the area and despite complaints to the police no action had been taken against them.
"We had a minor confrontation around eight months ago as well. But no action was taken against them. So, yesterday we protested against them and they came in the next day brandishing swords and tried to barge into my house. My four children were inside and could have been attacked," said Arora.Soon after the attack, all the accused fled the area.
On Friday evening, a case was registered at Rajouri Garden police station. "We have seen the CCTV footage and have identified most of them. They will all soon be apprehended," said DCP (West), Vijay Kumar.
