New Delhi: Parts of the national Capital and its adjoining areas witnessed thunderstorm with strong winds and rain on Saturday evening, bringing to pass the forecast that the India Meteorological Department (IMD) given earlier this week.
Strong winds exceeding 80 kilometres per hour acompanied the thunderstorm, sending people and pedestrians on roads running to seek shelter.
Light drizzle was also seen during the sudden weather change, around 3.30 pm.
The minimum temperature recorded in the afternoon was 29 degrees Celsius, while the maximum temperature was 42 degrees Celsius.
Some flights at the Delhi airport were also diverted and the passengers expressed their annoyance about their ordeal on Twitter.
"Flight delays are not the worst, it's being in the air for 50 minutes after reaching your destination, two landing trials and then ending up in Amritsar. All because of bad weather conditions in Delhi," said Umesh, a Delhi resident who was struck in his flight.
The IMD had earlier forecast thunderstorms in various parts of Delhi and the National Capital Region.
Thunderstorms with strong winds and rain are likely to hit places in and around Agra, Bulandshahr, Mathura, Gurgaon, Faridabad, Noida, Ghaziabad and other regions.
More than 100 people have reportedly died in various parts of north India, especially in western Uttar Pradesh and Rajasthan, in the latest storm in May.
