Stringent penal action against the violators
NEW DELHI: Making footpaths and pavements free from encroachment, strict action against improper parking and unauthorised vendors were few of the points which were discussed during a meeting between Delhi Police and Municipal Corporations.
An Additional Commissioner of Police (CP) rank officer told meeting attendees that stringent penal action against the violators under Municipal Act should be continued by levying penalties to deter the motorists from unauthorised and improper parking of vehicles in various markets.
The meeting was held in February.
The senior official also asked the other officers to make sure that pavements and footpaths should be free from encroachment for convenience of the general public. Local bodies were told to take assistance from local police and traffic police as and when help is needed.
An official from one of the Municipal Corporations informed other meeting attendees that strict action is being taken against the unauthorised hawkers and vendors in Karol Bagh area with the help of local police but they (unauthorised hawkers) were found persisting again and again.
Additional CP directed Station house officer (SHO) Karol Bagh to intensify the action on a regular basis to discourage the unauthorised operation of hawkers and shopkeepers.
Additional CP further directed traffic police officers to intensify action against persons violating restriction timings for loading or unloading goods, improper and unauthorised parking in markets.
The senior official also sensitised other officials regarding the restriction timings as directed by the court for loading and unloading of goods in all identified markets except Chandni Chowk in view of the ongoing redevelopment works.
Meanwhile, another meeting was held on February 20 which was related to sealing operations and retrieval of government and DDA land. It was attended by the Chief Secretary of Delhi Government and representatives from all concerned departments.
It was discussed in the meeting that unauthorised stalls by way of encroachment on the road side are running especially near and under Metro Stations (mostly on PWD roads).
Apart from it, tehbazaris on pedestrian pathways, thereby causing hindrance in the free movement of pedestrians. Public Works Department (PWD) Secretary was told to look into the matter and ensure removal of all such encroachments.
