Strict action to be taken against underage drivers in Gurugram

Gurugram: Taking cognisance of the perils surrounding underage driving in Gurugram, the district authorities have begun to taking stringent action against underage people caught driving.
The officials will also visit government schools across Gurugram and ask the students to obediently follow traffic rules.
While various campaigns have been launched by Gurugram Traffic Police, none seem to have not deterred underage driving in the city.
Complaints of motorcyclists using signal-free roads to perform dangerous stunts and for streetracing have also been on the rise.
Residents and officer goers, who use the route daily, often complain about the lack of action by the authorities, which they fear could result in a major tragedy.
Grievances are also being shared about how bikers brazenly violate traffic rules, even during peak traffic hours.
Ironically, these violations of traffic rules are being reported after 2017, when Gurugram Police set a record for imposing the highest number of fines on over seven lakh vehicles and collecting Rs 14 crore in fine.
Moreover, last year, 481 people reportedly lost their lives in road accidents in the Millennium City.
"The big problem is because you are not acting against one individual, you are encouraging others to also follow suit. Most of the underage drivers are indulging in dangerous activities, like stunt biking, which can prove to be dangerous for other commuters and themselves," said Rachna Shukla, a city resident.
