Street children help Delhi Police promote Swacchta

New Delhi: In a bid to help children who collect rags from the Capital's streets and to discourage them from this profession, Delhi Police is utilising its tool of nukkad nataks (street plays), where these children are cast as actors so as to spread the message of cleanliness.

Under the Swachta Hi Sewa fortnight, Delhi Police is conducting drives and cleanliness campaigns in and around its establishments.

The Railway Unit took the route of nukkad natak to drive home the point and through the children, it is spreading awareness of the importance maintaining cleanliness.

Last Monday , the Railway Unit conducted a nukkad natak titled 'Swachta – Ek Mission' where the children living in the streets gave the message cleanliness in the play.

The Nizamuddin Railway police station, led by SHO Praveen Kumar, helped the children to prepare play, which was acted out in the premises of railway station.

A senior police officer claimed that these children need this platform to showcase their acting talent.

"We also teach them in the premises of police station. Our main aim is that they leave the occupation of rag picking which is dangerous for their health and live a dignified life. We are helping them and many of the kids have been working with private companies," said the officer.

He added that the nukkad natak caught the attention of passengers at the station, including foreign nationals.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (Railway) Dinesh Kumar Gupta said that under the cleanliness drive, personnel clean their police stations and surroundings.

Commissioner Amulya Patnaik had, on September 15, launched the 'Swachhta Hi Seva' fortnight at Tilak Marg police station here, which will conclude on October 2.

The campaign was simultaneously carried out throughout the day in all the police stations and units, in which police officers and personnel joined in cleaning activities in and around the police establishments.

Though Delhi Police has given importance to cleanliness and hygiene throughout the year, it is being done in a more organised and concentrated manner during this cleanliness campaign to provide a better environment of service delivery to citizens of Delhi in all police premises.
