Stray dogs show aggressive traits out of starvation in Ggm

Gurugram: The lockdown has now begun to take its toll on stray animals in Gurugram. There are now complaints among members of several residential societies about aggressive behaviour being displayed by dogs out of starvation.

For a city that is not new to exploitation and brutal killing of stray dogs, reports have also begun to come out of how the situation has provided the opportunity for some residents to kill the stray dogs.

The residents also claimed that they have witnessed aggressive behaviours in monkeys as well.

The latest report of a Tiger in New York contracting Coronavirus has also caused fear among the people in Gurugram. Many residents have expressed concern about how stray animals may be vulnerable to contracting the virus.

Then there are complaints about how on the pretext of feeding stray dogs, most of the residents are defying the lockdown norms. The integrated command and control centre has been recently inaugurated, which would help in Geographical Information System (GIS) tracking.

Some residents are of the opinion that strict actions need to be taken in dealing with street dogs, while others believe that more shelters should be built for such animals.

In 2019, there were 10,000 cases of dog bites while in 2018 there were 8,312 cases that were registered in Gurugram.
