Stern action will be taken if cops found assisting illegal construction: Top cop

New Delhi: The Commissioner of Police (CP) Amulya Patnaik directed DCsP of districts to clearly brief their beat officers and station house officers (SHOs) that strict action will be taken against them if they are found assisting any unauthorised construction.

The police chief, while talking about police interference in unauthorised construction during a recently held meeting, directed the officials that it should be clearly spelt out to beat, division officers and SHOs that a deterrent action will be taken against them if any such complaint comes to

notice.

"Special CP (vigilance) should conduct surprise checks in this regard. District DCsP should also get vigilance checkings through their own vigilance branch," police chief told senior officers.

Sources said that till June, 4 more than 60 complaints (related to connivance in unauthorised construction and land grabbing) found pending under the Complaints Monitoring and Tracking System (CMTS).

"The city police till June 4 also disposed of more than 90 complaints. It includes the investigation of older complaints which might have been reported last year," sources added.

Last year, as many as 1,238 such calls pertaining to allegations of harassment, inaction or corruption were attended by the flying squad of Delhi

Police.

The Delhi Police annual report 2018 reads, "identifying those complaints of a relatively serious nature into which an independent enquiry by the vigilance unit was called for, on the orders of the Commissioner of Police and the Special Commissioner of Police (Vigilance), 472 vigilance enquiries were conducted this year.

Out of 472 vigilance enquiries, allegations in 107 vigilance enquiries were proved against 272 police officials (5 ACsP, 62 inspectors, 53 SIs, 53 ASIs, 45 HCs and 54 constables) and commensurate disciplinary action was initiated.

Compliance of Standing Orders

During the meeting, the CP stressed that district DCsP should identify and go through important standing orders and ensure meticulous compliance at the district and police station level.

"District DCsP should pick-up an important standing order and task an Inspector and ACP to give the presentation on this in the weekly meeting of the district so as to monitor compliance," CP told officers.
