Stalker who shot girl in Harsh Vihar arrested; weapon seized

New Delhi: The stalker who shot a girl in her stomach had been arrested by Delhi Police. He has been identified as Pradeep, a neighbour of the girl. The weapon used in the firing has been recovered too.

The girl is still battling for life at the GTB hospital. On Tuesday, Pradeep was produced in a Delhi court and was sent to 14 days' judicial custody. "We have arrested Pradeep, the accused in the shooting case. He shot the girl as she turned down his demand to continue relationship with him as Pradeep recently got married to his sister-in-law after his brother's death," said a senior police officer.

Pradeep then started harassing the girl and was compelling her to continue the relationship with him but she refused. Agitated, Pradeep then procured a gun and waited outside her house on Monday. As the girl came out he followed her and shot her in the stomach.

According to police, Pradeep after fleeing the spot went to some of his relatives' place and later hid in the fields as well. The police teams soon caught him from there. He was brought to the Harsh Vihar police station and questioned. The weapon used in the commission of crime has been recovered from his possession.

Pradeep shot at the 20-year-old woman near her house in Harsh Vihar area of North East Delhi on Monday morning at around 8 am. The woman immediately collapsed on the ground and was rushed to the hospital. She was hit in the stomach. She is still battling for life after an operation has been performed to save her life at the GTB hospital. Her condition is still serious. An officer said that she has been operated on Monday and is still under observation of doctors in the intensive care unit. The father of the girl expired some time back and the victim has 2 sisters and a brother. The girl used to work in a private Noida-based company to support her family.
