Spike in dengue cases in Gurugram

Gurugram: The fear of dengue has returned to the city with the subsiding of monsoon rains. Last week there was four reported case of the vector-borne disease that was reported from the city. Interestingly, all the four confirmed cases have been reported from posh colonies of the city. The areas from where dengue have been reported are DLF Phase-2 and DLF Phase -3. As of now, there are 21 confirmed cases of dengue in the city. The rapid response team has been set up by the district health department to tackle vector-borne diseases like dengue and malaria that seems spike during this season. As of now, there are five confirmed cases of dengue while there have been fifty suspected cases.

Preparations have already begun for early fogging. There are teams that have been formed by Municipal Corporation of Gurugram (MCG) to detect the presence of larvae across the four municipal zones in which the city is divided. Ironically, the large presence of larvae has been found in the posh areas of the city. Areas that have been termed as highly prone areas for vector-borne diseases in the city are DLF, Sushant-Lok, South- City, Sector -31 and Palam –Vihar. Often it has been found that a large number of patients suffering from dengue and chikungunya last year had resulted in the shortage of beds in the city hospitals and many patients being referred to hospitals in Delhi for the treatment.
