Speeding vehicle mows down IAF corporal in Jewar

Greater Noida: A 28-year-old officer of the Indian Air Force (IAF) was killed after an unidentified speeding vehicle mowed him down near Yamuna Expressway in Jewar area of Greater Noida on early Thursday morning.
According to police, the incident took place at around 6.15 am at Jewar-Bulandshahr road, when the deceased, identified as IAF corporal Yogesh Sharma, was on a morning walk.
The yet-to-be-identified vehicle hit him and he immediately collapsed to the ground and died on collission.
Police said they are yet to trace the vehicle and its driver.
"A passerby made a call to the police, following which a team was rushed to the spot. Sharma, a native of Sabota village in Jewar Kasba, had gone for a morning walk on Thursday morning. Police rushed him to Kailash Hospital in Jewar, where he was declared brought dead on arrival," said Rajpal Singh Tomar, station house officer, Jewar police station.
Officials at Kailash Hospital stated that Sharma was brought to the hospital around 7 am and his body was later handed over to his family members.
Cops have started their probe in the incident and are trying to find whether any passersby noticed the accident or any vital clues.
"Based on the complaint filed by the victim's family members, a case under section 279 (rash driving) and 304A (causing death by negligence) of the Indian Penal Code against unknown persons has been registered at Jewar police station. We are yet to trace the vehicle and the accused driver, who fled the spot after the incident. Locals are being questioned and we are trying our best to locate the accused," said Tomar.
Police said that Sharma was about to join his Air Force division in Jammu in the next few days.
He had come to his native place during his vacations. Corporal Sharma is survived by his wife and a two year old son.
