The accident prone Yamuna Expressway recorded another deadly incident on Monday night when four were killed and eight others were left injured after a speeding truck rammed into one stationary vehicle.
The driver of the stationary vehicle, Tata Magic was changing the tire when the driver of the speeding truck banged into the former, killing four people on the spot.
The deceased were identified as Harnarayan, Jaypal, Mahendri, and Rupwati while the injured were identified as Hetram, Ashok, Chandrapal, Deendayal, Prempal, Sonu, Mithlesh and Kusum, said police officials.
The accused truck driver, Ramesh Kumar, a resident of Sultanpur village, has been arrested from the spot. Also, the truck has been seized.
"The incident occurred on late Monday night at around 2:30 am near Dayanatpur village in Jewar. Some passersby informed us about the incident and our team was sent to the spot.
The Tata Magic was travelling from Khurja in Bulandshahr to Faridabad.
At least 18 passengers were present in the van. The van's tire got deflated and the vehicle was parked on the roadside. The driver was trying to replace the tire," said Ajay Kumar Sharma, Station House Officer, Jewar police station.
Further, he stated that as the E-way remains dark at night with no presence of street lights, the accused driver failed to notice the parked vehicle.
"The truck was coming from the same direction and rammed into the stationary vehicle. The victims were taken to Kailash hospital, Jewar and were declared dead as they suffered critical injuries.
Eight people suffered injuries out of which two were declared critical and were transferred to a higher hospital in Delhi. The bodies were handed over to their relatives after carrying out the post mortem," added sharma.
The impact of the collision was such that the van was badly damaged.
"As it was very late in night, it seems like the driver was dozed off or might be driving the vehicle at a high speed which made him to lose control over the vehicle," said Ajay Kumar Sharma.
The 165-km Yamuna Expressway has witnessed accidents in large numbers.
Few months ago, four people including the driver of the car died on the E-way in a similar incident when a Maruti Alto car they were travelling in rammed into a stationary truck which was parked on the left side of the road.
The drivers of such stationary vehicle do not even bother to put any emergency warning of vehicle breakdown on the road so that the other vehicles coming from behind notice the sign and stay alerted.
The case is registered under CRPC no. 172/17, under sections 279, 337, 338, 304A and 427 IPC.
