Special Cell team awarded Union Home Minister's Special Operation medal
New Delhi: A team of Special Cell of Delhi Police were awarded Union Home Minister's Special Operation medal for the year 2019. The team consists of deputy commissioner of police Pramod Singh Kushwah, assistant commissioner of police Attar Singh, inspector Shivkumar, assistant sub-inspector Rajesh Kumar and head constable Aadesh Kumar.
The team has busted several modules including terrorist outfits, drug cartels, illegal arms trafficking. In one of the cases, the team arrested two terrorists who were planning for terror attacks in National Capital on eve of Repblic Day 2019. Police said that a reliable source informed the teamthat a terrorist of Jaish-e-Mohammad who is mastermind of spree of grenade attacks in Srinagar and around is now planning similar terror strikes in heavy footfall areas, VIP areas and on a vital installation in Delhi during the ongoing Republic Day Celebrations. The accused was identified as Abdul Latif Ganaie. He was later arrested on the intervening night of January 20-21, 2019 near Rajghat. A pistol of .32 with 26 live cartridges were recovered from him. Three rubber stamps of Jaish-e-Mohammad and other incriminating material were also recovered from his possession.
Investigation of case was conducted by ACP Attar Singh. After arrest of accused, a team consisting of inspector Shivkumar, ASI Rajesh Sharma and HC Adesh Kumar led by Attar Singh and supervised by DCP Parmod Khushwah was immediately rushed to J&K to nab other associate terrorists of Abdul Latif. Two hand grenades were recovered from the house of Abdul Latif Ganaie. Hilal Ahmad Bhat who had carried out the resonance of various places for terrorist strikes in Delhi was also arrested from Baandipora in J&K.
Police said that the accused disclosed that they were affiliated with Jaish-e-Mohammad. He was tasked by his handler Abu Mauz with carrying out grenade strikes in Srinagar and around. As he successfully masterminded those strikes, he was further tasked by his handler to carry out similar strikes in Delhi. Both were in advance stage of carrying out terror strikes in Delhi during the ongoing Republic Day celebrations and their other associates were to do likewise in Srinagar and around.
