New Delhi: With the aim to ensure quality education, South Delhi Municipal Corporation (SDMC) has decided to bring structural changes in its schools.
As part of its new initiative 'Project Buniyaad', SDMC has introduced several measures, including providing new uniforms to students, holding summer camps, opening of English medium nursery classes, installing CCTV cameras and making Saturday a bag-free day, among others.
SDMC Mayor Kamaljeet Sehrawat said that as per the 'National Achievement Survey,' the result in mathematics and language subjects of students in classes III and V were found not up to the expectations.
"Keeping the survey in mind, we have decided to introduce the project from April 2018 to improve basic understanding of students," the Mayor said.
She further said that after assessing the abilities of the students of these classes, special summer vacation camps will be organised in all SDMC schools.
"In these summer camps, teachers will specially focus on weak students, so that before re-opening schools after summer vacations, they will be able to achieve the minimum standard in language and maths.
"The basic level of students will be assessed on ASER tools in July. After the reassessment, students who achieve grade-level performance will be labelled as 'Ujjawal,' those who achieve medium level performance will be labelled 'Utakarsh,' and those who need to work harder will be labellled 'Udyam'. During July and August, classes will be held on performance based grouping," Sehrawat said.
SDMC Chairman Standing Committee Bhupender Gupta said that from the coming session, all students will be seen in colourful uniforms, for which the subsidy has been increased from Rs 500 to Rs 1,100 per student. He further stated that 100 per cent attendance has been achieved in the Corporation's schools on Saturdays.
