Society members hold counter protest, want Nigerians out

Following the death of a 16-year-old boy due to alleged drug overdose, hundreds of Nigerian students protested in Greater Noida on Sunday against the false blame.

After this, the residents of NSG society, (residence of the deceased) took to streets against the Nigerians Nationals who reside in the same society demanding them to vacate the area.

The residents alleged that these Nigerian students involved their children in drug abuse and peddling. The situation took an ugly turn after the 16-year-old boy died allegedly of drug overdose. Ajay Chandra, a resident of NSG society, Greater Noida, said, "We live in this society for the past three years. Several Nigerian students are also living here. Whenever we walk in the evening, we can easily smell something intoxicated coming out of their house. They also try to get engage with our children to make a friendly relation among them."

Three days ago, a 16-year-old student died in Greater Noida owing to alleged overdose of drug. The doctors had said that the patient was admitted with 'heavy dose of drugs', in a critical condition and could not be saved under any circumstances.

The boy's family blamed some of the Nigerian students who live in an adjacent flat in NSG society in Greater Noida and accused him of cannibalism.

Following this, the family filed a complaint stating that the Nigerian residents were responsible for the death of their son. This complaint forced many people of African origin to hold protests demanding justice against the false accusations. Also, they accused the racist behaviour thrown at them by the residents.

Due to the protest of the residents, roads were blocked and traffic came to a standstill.
