Slab of under-construction building collapses, one dies
New Delhi: Less than a week, after a building collapse in North West Delhi's Sawan Park killed seven persons, the district saw another death when a slab of the building fell on him in Swaroop Nagar area. The investigating agency claimed that another labourer was also injured in the incident.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (North-West) Aslam Khan said that at 1:23 pm on Monday a PCR call regarding fall of slab was received at Swaroop Nagar police station. The plot was at the behind of Azad place where construction work was going and the owner is Satish Yadav, resident of Samaypur Badli area. The deceased was identified as Pankaj, aged in between 25-30 years. "No claimant for body has come so far," said the DCP. The injured was identified as Dharambir (32).
A fire officials said a call was received about the roof collapse around 1:10 pm and five vehicles were rushed to the spot. The fire officials rescued victims who were trapped in the debris and rushed them to a hospital. Among them, the condition of one person was critical and he succumbed to injuries later, he added. Police have registered a case in this regard and investigation is going on.
Last week, a five-storey building collapse in northwest Delhi's Ashok Vihar area had led to the death of seven people. Police claimed that a case under section 304 (Punishment for culpable homicide not amounting to murder) and 34 ( Acts done by several persons in furtherance of common intention) of Indian Penal Code was registered against Dharmendra who is the owner of the building, his partner Sachin and his father. The police are yet to make any arrest in the case.
The data of Delhi Fire Services (DFS) accessed by Millennium Post claimed that in the year 2009-10, around 34 persons died whereas in the year 2010-11, the death toll increased to 112 whereas 2011-12 witnessed 47 deaths in
the city.
"The structures collapsed in the year 2012-13 claimed 37 lives whereas, in 2013-14, around 29 persons died. More than 40 persons were killed in 2014-15 whereas in 2016-17 over 20 persons lost their lives. From 2017 to March 2018, 11 persons died," claimed the
DFS data.
