Since December 2012, Delhi Police arrested 10,000 people in rape cases

New Delhi: After the horrific incident of 2012 gang rape, Delhi Police tightened the noose and arrested more than 10,000 people for their involvement in rape from 2013 till April 2018. More than 19,000 accused were arrested in molestation cases.

The Delhi Police data accessed by Millennium Post stated that in the current year till April 15, more than 500 accused were arrested on rape charges whereas over 700 persons were nabbed under the charges of molestation whereas over 120 persons were arrested for eve-teasing. Last year till November 2017, more than 2,174 accused were arrested for rape whereas 3,373 persons were nabbed on the charges of molestation. The year 2016 witnessed 2,155 rape cases and 4,165 molestations in which 2181 accused in rape and 3,929 accused in molestation were arrested by Delhi Police.

In 2015, around 2,079 rape accused were arrested whereas 4,792 persons accused of molestation were nabbed. The year witnessed 2,199 rape cases and 5,367 cases of molestation. In 2014, around 2,166 cases of rape were registered and 2,079 accused of rape were arrested. The year also saw 4,322 molestation cases while 3,662 accused were nabbed. In 2013, around 1,636 rape cases were lodged and 1,811 accused were arrested for rape while 4045 accused of molestations were nabbed and 3,515 cases were registered.

For the women security in the National Capital, the Delhi Police have also got Nirbhaya fund and this time Rs 19.75 crore has been granted for this, while last year Rs 28.90 crore was allocated. The budget was given to strengthen women safety and security in the city. Recently, Delhi Police have relaunched emergency safety Application Himmat Plus. The Facebook page of Delhi Traffic Police and Twitter handle of Delhi Police have also been linked to the application to provide traffic updates as well other updates of police for the benefit of the users.

Women or young girls face problems if there is no proper toilet in the city. So the 'Pink Toilet' has been set up in the Capital which is addressing specific barriers women and adolescent girls face in using existing toilet facilities.
