Shyam Lal College collaborating with European institutes

New Delhi: The International Winter School project for 2018 at Delhi University's Shyam Lal College (SLC) – which started in March this year – will conclude in August.

Authorities said they want to make the programme a regular feature of their college, which at one point of time was notorious for its poor infrastructure.

In addition to the International Winter School project, SLC is now collaborating with European countries for other events too.

Now, the college is in talks with France and Georgia for programmes on academic excellence, confidence-building and skill development among students.

The student strength of SLC is more than Jawaharlal Nehru University. However, in terms of campus space, it is not even one-fifth of JNU.

Dr Rabi Narayan Kar, principal, SLC, said, "We organised International Winter School with the help of Ministry of Higher Education of Finland, in which a five-day academic extravaganza was organised with lectures, seminars and conferences.

Academics from not only India but from abroad also participated. Around 20 European delegates participated in the event, in which 18 were from Finland."

Meanwhile, sources in the college added, "Finland government organises a test for the scholarship for international students which used to take place in Nepal. But last year, it was organised at SLC, in which students from Australia, Nigeria, Kenya, Sri Lanka and Bangladesh besides India and Nepal appeared.

"The college is taking many such initiatives and succeeding. This is a big achievement not only for the college but for the university as such."

SLC has also organised virtual lectures from universities and colleges abroad, such as Melbourne School of Business Studies, while professors from France also delivered their lectures without the college spending any money on it. Students of the college is even getting regular campus placements as well.
