Shootout near Akshardham temple, 2 robbers arrested
New Delhi: Four armed men robbed two traders at NH 24 on Thursday afternoon at gunpoint and fled with nearly Rs 30 lakh.
In the robbery bid, they also fired gunshots which grazed the hand of one of the victims, Narender.
Ashok and Narender, both residents of Haryana, were returning after collecting money from Ghazipur chicken market when they were chased and confronted by four men on two bikes. As their auto was forcibly stopped at NH24, the robbers also fired a gunshot which grazed Narender's hand.
As the robbers tried to flee, they were confronted by a police team near Akshardham.
The police team on the bike gave the robbers a chase and finally zeroed them near the Akshardham Flyover.
The police said that the robbers started firing at the police team when they found themselves surrounded. Heavy police force was present near Akshardham, and soon the team managed to arrest two while two others slipped away. No policemen was injured in the firing.
"We were able to catch two criminals just after the robbery incident. The second person who has been arrested is the collection agent of the victims," said DCP East Jasmeet Singh.
Police suspect that the information of the cash was provided by a collection agent of the two victims. Cops are collecting the CCTV of the area to know where did the other two fled with the money.
Also, the routes of the victims is being monitored to know if the gang conducted recee before striking. Police is veryfying if the gang is involved in other cases of robbery as well.
