Shoddy public transport forces Ggn residents to use personal vehicles

Promises of Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar stating that public transportation system in the Millennium City will soon see development remains unfulfilled as the present condition of transport system continues to add woes to its residents.

The State Government announced grand plans to improve the public transportation system of Gurugram in the past. Yet, bureaucratic delays and controversies over the decision resulted in stalling of the promised projects.

Last year, the state government had in a major announcement stated that 500 state buses would be added but the residents are yet to see these buses. Further, according to reports, there will be a reduction in the movement of AC Buses due to poor maintenance and shortage of staff. Presently, there are fifty AC buses plying in the city.

The decision by the state government to extend the metro services in Gurugram got pulled up in the controversy with the city MLA Umesh Aggarwal alleging that there has been corruption in chalking out the new metro route plan.

The controversies and delays in improvement of public transportation are adding to the misery of the citizens who depend on their personal vehicles for long distance transportation in the city.

The offices which are far from the metro station normally provide official cabs and charted buses for their employees.

"The transportation system in the city is in extremely poor condition. The Government authorities must realise that the city has expanded to Manesar. There must be a long term and short term planning that should be there for the public transportation system in the city," said resident, Rajeev Jindal.

"The poor transportation in the city is also partially responsible today for Gurugram losing its sheen as Millennium city," added Jindal.

Presently the Delhi metro runs from Sikanderpur area in the city to HUDA city Centre. The private metro services also known as Rapid metro are operational from Sikanderpur to the commercial area of Cyber city area.

The second phase of Rapid metro that will extend its services to Sector 56 is expected to be completed by April end.

The State Government has announced that the metro services will be extended to Dwarka in Delhi via Old Delhi and also there will be a metro link between Gurugram and Faridabad via Qutab Minar in the near future.
