New Delhi: The SHO of Rani Bagh police station has been sent to police lines after a realtor levelled allegations that he was tortured inside the police station along with his two sons in North West district. Six other policemen have been suspended in the incident.
The incident came to light when complainant Surendra Agrawal's scooty was picked up allegedly by the policemen from outside his house in Rani Bagh in the intervening night of 6 and 7 May.
"My son went to the police station to find out about the matter. He was brutally thrashed by the policemen inside the police station without telling him the reason. Then, my elder son Tushar went to see his brother but he too was attacked by the policemen with an iron poker. His toe was almost chopped off by the iron poker. He also has injury marks on his back," said Surender Agrawal.
The complainant alleged that when the guard of the building who had followed his sons to the police station told him about the torture, he rushed to the police station with his wife.
"The policemen also misbehaved with my wife. They even did not let the PCR van come in when we called 100. My son was bleeding profusely and even his medical was not conducted," Agrawal said.
The SHO was not inside the police station when the alleged torture took place but when he returned, he tried to sheild the policemen and asked them not to file a complaint, the complainant said. However, the complainant later went to a private hospital for treatment where the toe was operated on.
The victims lodged a complaint with the Home Ministery and on Tuesday they went to meet the police Commissioner who ordered an inquiry into the incident.
"We have sent the SHO to police lines. We have also suspended six other policemen including an ASI and five constables," said Aslam Khan, DCP North West. Sources said that the police picked up the scooty as it was parked on the road for several days and the cops suspeted that it might have been dumped by the thieves.
However, the family has said that they want the accused policemen to be arrested.
