Shaheen Bagh women want written assurance from HM
NEW DELHI: The women of Shaheen Bagh in a press conference on Friday questioned the government stand on NPR. They said that whatever the Central government has said on NPR should be given in writing as the people now do not believe in the words of the government.
Shaheen Bagh women protesting against the Citizenship law, the National Register of Citizens (NRC) and the National Population Register (NPR) said that the movement will continue till the law is revoked.
Referring to Home Minister Amit Shah's speech in Parliament on the NPR, they said "Mr. Shah said that the "doubtful" category will be removed from the NPR. What we want to say is that why are the questions required at all? We demand that the law, which was amended in 2003, be revoked so that the issue gets uprooted once and for all."
At the late-night briefing, several women came forth and demanded answers from the Centre on the recent violence which erupted in north-east Delhi. "One single community was targeted in the riots. The women alleged that the boys are also picked up by police randomly," they added.
Further, they added, "On what basis did the HM said that the riots ended on February 25 when police records show there were distress calls on February 26 as well?"
The women also demanded Rs one crore compensation for all those who have been killed in the north-east riots. They demanded immediate arrest of BJP leader Kapil Mishra along with others who have given provocative hate speeches.
They also said that proper hygiene is being maintained by the Shaheen Bagh protesters against the Coronavirus and the women are using sanitisers and are repeatedly washing their hands during the protest.
