Gurugram: Despite breaching the 900 figure mark after a gap of more than ten years, Gurugram is still far behind in term of female population in comparison with male counterparts.
In the 22 districts of Haryana, its richest district is ranked 16. Taking cognisance of the situation, the public officials have now set the target of achieving 935 females to 1,000 males by the end of the year.
In a major achievement for Gurugram, the district recorded a sex ratio figure of 900 females to 1000 males in 2017.
For a district that has registered dismal figures in the previous year's this can also be considered as major boost to the effort of public agencies to improve the situation.
The poor state of affairs can be gauged from the fact that in 2014, there were 843 females to 1,000 males. While in 2012 there were only 841 females to 1,000 males.
From 2014, the district has shown considerable improvement with 875 females to 1,000 males in 2015, 883:1000 in 2016 and now 903:1000 in 2017. Till August, the data hovered between 880 to 892.
However, in September the figures crossed the 900 figure mark with no decrease in the subsequent months.
In the last five years, there have been 28 raids that have been conducted at the clinic that have encouraged girl child abortion.
While action against clinics that aborted female child continued, Women and Child welfare ministry of Haryana Government has roped in the services of more than thousand aanganwadi workers in Gurugram to register the pregnant women in the district.
