Several steps taken for women safety: Police
New Delhi: The Delhi Police has claimed to have taken various measures towards women safety and security, including self-defence training and launching of various women safety applications. According to police, their emergency helpline numbers 112 and 1091 functions 24 X 7 to reach out to women in distress. Separate specialised women police mobile teams are functioning to attend distress calls on this emergency helpline round-the-clock.
Police officials further said that one of the main problems faced by the women in Delhi is receiving obnoxious telephone calls and stalking using mobile phones.
There are thousands of such calls received from women in this regard. Hence, all such distress calls from women about stalking are diverted to a special anti-stalking group in the CPCR which functions 24 X 7.
The Himmat Plus SOS application for women was relaunched on Feb 6, 2018. During the year 2019 (up to November 30), 23,369 downloads have been counted and 15,602 persons have registered on the application. Another Delhi Police application Tatpar amalgamates all the websites and mobile applications of Delhi Police, and over 50 services can be accessed with a single touch.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (SPUWAC) Geeta Rani Verma said they have taken various initiatives for women safety which includes awareness through Nukkad Natak, counselling, self-defence training.
As many as 2,92,870 girls and women were imparted with self-defence training in 1495 programmes during the year 2019 (up to November).
Additional PRO (Delhi Police) Anil Mittal said that instructions are issued to BPOs and reviewed from time to time to ensure that woman employees are not made to
travel alone with the cab driver but is accompanied with a duly verified security guard or a male colleague.
He further said, "Expeditious completion of investigation of rape
cases is of the paramount importance of Delhi Police. Investigation in every rape case is closely monitored by the concerned DCP and the endeavour is to file a charge sheet within twenty days of arresting the accused."
Traffic police have launched special drives against Public Transport vehicles with films, tinted glasses, unauthorized buses picking up passengers from crowded bus
stands, and against TSR, Taxi drivers for refusal or misbehaviour.
