Seven arrested for murdering cash van security guard

NEW DELHI: The Delhi Police has arrested seven men for the murder of the security guard of a cash van in an attempted heist in Mayur Vihar. Interestingly they are childhood friends and are from the same village in Sonepat, Haryana. They came together for the robbery and did a futile attempt to loot the cash van which was carrying Rs 4.2 crore. However, they shot dead the security guard Bishamber after he resisted the robbery attempt.

"Interrogation of the accused revealed that six of the accused persons belonged to Sonepat district of Haryana and are known to each other since childhood. One was from Narela. One of them, Sunil, took to crime and remained in and out of jail since 2011 having been involved in several offences ranging from ATM fraud, attempt to culpable homicide, girohbandi and Arms Act," said Pankaj Singh DCP East.

He joined hands with his old friends Mohit and Kapil, also from the same village to loot persons on the highway of their vehicles and belongings. Mohit was also absconding in a case of murder in Sonepat so all three readily formed a gang committing robberies across NCR. They stole two vehicles and robbed one vehicle from Noida for the commission of the crime.

Bijender and Sachin too were added in the gang. All of them together were on the lookout for a big loot for which they approached Sandeep and Parvesh who also belonged to the same village Mukimpur in Sonepat and had experience working with cash vans. While Parvesh was currently employed with Brinks, Sandeep had worked with Brinks as a custodian some time back. Parvesh provided them with critical information such as which cash van had most cash and moved along a vulnerable path and how much cash it would carry.

However, the gang panicked after they started firing and were unable to open the inner locks. A trap was laid under the supervision of ACP Rohit Rajbir Singh and ACP Shobhit Saxena and the accused were arrested on October 16.
