Serial dog killer on the prowl?
New Delhi: In South Delhi's Chattarpur Extension, as many as eight dogs have died mysteriously within a span of 10 days. Eyewitnesses say that the dogs froth from their mouth and showed signs of paralysis before dying painfully. The residents of the area suspect that someone is after the society's stray dogs and killing them by giving them milk laced with poison. A formal complaint in this regard has been made at Mehrauli Police station and the bodies of at least two dogs have been sent for post mortem.
Residents of the JVTS garden in Neelanchal Vihar, Chattarpur Extension alleged that they have been seeing serial mysterious deaths of the stray dogs right in front of their houses in the C block. They suspect that someone is poisoning them intentionally. The dogs are often seen in the morning unable to move and paralysed.
"We noticed the first case on August 28, when we found two dogs dead. Before anyone could understand anything they were quickly disposed off by the RWA. However, when two more dogs were found dead on September 1, we smelled something is fishy. How can the dogs die at the same stretch with the same symptoms," said Doctor Deepak Saran, who resides in the same society?
Then on September 3 , Doctor Deepak saw another dog frothing from the mouth and moving restlessly before it collapsed. It was then he called the police. By the time all formalities were done another dog died with the same symptoms at around 11 in the same locality.
"It looks like the serial killing of dogs, we took the dogs to the Mehrauli Police station and got the post mortem done, we want this to be investigated as this is a serious matter," said Sonia Ghosh, an animal rights activist.
A team has been formed and the CCTV footage of the colony is being scanned for clues.
"The viscera of the dogs has been sent for examination. Only after the Post mortem report arrives, we would be certain about the cause of death, We have received the complaint and registered a case in this regard," said Additional DCP South Parwinder Singh.
