'Sensitisation of Metro parking attendants vital'

New Delhi: After recovering several vehicles stolen from the parking lots in and around Delhi Metro stations, Delhi Police has intensified its vigil in the parking lots.
In addition to Delhi Police, paramilitary forces such as Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) are responsible for maintaining security in the Metro premises.
The city police has also written to the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) for the sensitization of the caretakers about the vehicles present in the parking area.
The Delhi Police (Metro) has also conducted a drive against drunken drivers in various Metro stations located nearby malls with parking area connected with it.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (Metro) Deepak Gauri stated that the police are taking every initiative to curb crime in their jurisdiction.
"We have written three letters to DMRC about the sensitization of caretakers of parking areas. Also, we have enhanced the police presence in the Metro jurisdiction which has led to a drop in crime," said the DCP. Police sources claimed that the letter stated that the caretakers of the parking areas should make sure that the vehicles are not parked there for a long time and if they found anything suspicious, they should inform the agencies concerned.
On April 27, the police recovered stolen vehicles from Azadpur Metro station, which were stolen from different places in Delhi whereas in another case a motorcycle stolen from Kotla Mubarakpur was found in the Lajpat Nagar Metro station parking area.
Not only Delhi Police but also DMRC and CISF remained on their toes to provide the commuters with a crime-free Delhi Metro.
"The cooperation of DMRC and CISF helps the police in the deterrence of crime in the Metro jurisdiction," the DCP further stated. The Delhi Police (Metro) has also started a drive against drunken drivers nearby metro stations.
"Our team stands near the parking areas and if we found something suspicious we stop the vehicle and ask for details. We also check if the person is in drunken state," the police said.
Delhi Police (Metro) looks after more than 150 metro stations in Delhi and approximately 190 km track of Delhi Metro. There are 16 Metro police stations.
