Senior police officers should review functioning of PFDs: LG to Delhi Police
New Delhi: The Lieutenant Governor (LG) house has suggested Delhi Police that senior officers should review records related Public facilitation Desks (PFDs) at periodic intervals.
Sources said that police was told about proper training of Public Facilitation Officers (PFOs).
Sources told Millennium Post that this year, senior officers of LG's Secretariat inspected 56 police stations in various districts to ascertain whether PFDs are functioning as per Standing Order (SO) number 449/2019.
"Several suggestions were given to improve the functioning of PFDs and PFOs," added sources.
Sources said that suggestions like steps to be taken to provide exclusive staff for PFD whose name and number should be displayed on a board on PFD at each police station for public information, PFOs should be well trained and should be aware about the instructions as contained in the Standing Order. Records related to PFDs should be maintained as per SO and reviewed by senior level officers at periodic intervals.
A highly placed source said that last month a letter from LG house was written to Delhi Police containing the details of the inspections.
"LG has perused the reports and has desired that the matter may kindly be looked into and corrective action be taken to ensure the functioning of PFDs as per SO. It has been desired that senior officers be deputed to review the functioning of PFDs on random basis," reads the letter.
LG house has asked the city police to take appropriate action in the matter and furnish a report for the perusal of LG, expeditiously.
Sources added that last month during a crime review meeting, the Delhi Police Commissioner Amulya Patnaik directed senior officers that district DCsP should ensure that women staff deputed as PFOs in the police stations are well trained and sensitized regarding the duties expected of
them.
"Surprise checks should be conducted to confirm whether they are performing their duties as per SO or otherwise. SHOs should be clearly told that PFOs should not be diverted to other duties," top cop directed officers.
