The accused Ranjeet Kumar, a resident of Etah district in Uttar Pradesh, was arrested on October 18 from Kasganj. A cash reward of Rs 25,000 had been declared by the Commissioner of Delhi Police for his arrest. His seven associates in the dacoity had already been arrested by staff of Mayapuri police station.

During interrogation, Ranjeet revealed that due to the poor economic background of his family, he was forced to work as a security guard in his teenage.

However, he was acquitted in 2006, after which he started working in Gurugram, Haryana, where he met a group of like-minded persons working in such security agencies and hatched a plot to loot a large amount of cash stored in highly secure locations.

Ranjeet and his associates procured several arms/ammunition and gas cutter torch tor execute their plan. However, their plan was foiled when an alert security guard managed to escape and called the police.

All his associates were arrested in the case soon after the incident, but Ranjeet succeeded to evade arrest for the last seven years.

"Despite sincere efforts by police, the accused was at large and succeeded to evade arrest for the last seven years. The accused has been handed over to local police, who are examining him in order to ascertain if he is involved in other incidents," said Bhishm Singh, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Crime).
