Sealing: Sanjay Singh moves Pvt Member's Bill

NEW DELHI: Aam Aadmi Party Rajya Sabha member Sanjay Singh said he submitted a Private Members Bill on Monday to put an end to the sealing drive in the city.
"Today I have moved a Private Member's bill. Since independence, only 14 Private Member bills have been accepted as far as I know," Singh told the media.
He urged all political parties to come together to pass the bill to end the sealing of shops and businesses operating from residential premises in the national Capital.
Singh said the sealing drive had caused enormous difficulties for the traders and their families.
The MP alleged that traders were being beaten up in the name of sealing.
"AAP has been saying from the beginning that the sealing drive can be stopped only by a Bill, or by an ordinance if Parliament is not in session," he added.
The AAP-led Delhi government has also decided to pass a resolution against the sealing drive in the upcoming Delhi Assembly session.
Stressing the need to "rise above politics", Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal had on Sunday called for an all-party meeting at his residence on Tuesday to find solutions to problems being faced by traders because of an ongoing sealing drive in the Capital.
Delhi Congress president Ajay Maken had thanked Kejriwal for the move, while the BJP said it would decide on its participation after consulting state unit chief Manoj Tiwari, who is currently abroad.
"We should rise above politics and come together to find a solution to the problems that have risen due to sealing," Kejriwal had said in his letters sent to Tiwari and Maken.
Maken, who had written a letter to Kejriwal on Saturday, offering to share with the chief minister what he felt could be a solution to the drive, thanked him for accepting his request.
Praising Kejriwal for inviting the BJP, which rules the three Delhi municipal corporations carrying out the drive, the Congress leader expressed the hope the saffron party would participate in the meet. The situation demands "positive politics", he said.
The Delhi BJP said Tiwari was abroad and would return by March 15.
