Sealing in Karol Bagh leaves goldsmiths in anguish

NEW DELHI: Goldsmiths in central Delhi's Karol Bagh on Saturday expressed anguish over sealing of 85 jewellery shops in Beadonpura area, and stated that the sealing has left over 600 goldsmiths and artisans unemployed, making the lives of more than 2,400 of their dependent family members miserable.
Addressing the media at Press Club of India, Bivash Chandra Maity, president of Delhi Swarankar Sangha, along with other office-bearers said, "We come before you to bring the plight and misery of goldsmiths and their dependent families, who were declared 'Artisans and Skilled Workers' by the Government of India.'
The association also claimed that civic authorities did not give any receipt of gold and diamond products that they confiscated during sealing.
"If any untoward incident happens, who will be responsible for that. The goldsmiths or traders were not shown or given any documents or order to reason or justify, as a matter of natural justice," Maity stated.
