Sealing drive to be delayed by a week

NEW DELHI: The sealing drive in Delhi will be delayed by a week as the Supreme Court appointed monitoring committee for sealing is busy with the de-sealing work, said the sources. Officials said that the sealing drive was planned to start this week but for technical reasons, it would be delayed. "We will inform the municipal agencies before the drive. The Supreme Court has directed that notification should be served 48 hours prior to the drive," said an official. He also said that all the civic agencies have been asked to be ready with the necessary arrangements to initiate the new sealing drive.

"We are ready with all kinds of equipment to start the sealing drive as informed by the monitoring committee. We have also informed the local police regarding the drive. On the day of the drive, we will inform the police regarding the exact time," said a municipal official.

The ceiling drive was halted as the Delhi Development Authority started amending the existing laws on the basis of which the driver is being conducted. But the Supreme Court recently directed that the drive should continue throughout the city. Taking an extremely grim view of reports that people - many of them being influential - have been threatening officials against carrying out the demolition of illegal buildings in the city, Supreme Court recently said that no 'bossing around' would be tolerated.

A bench comprising of Justice Madan B Lokur and Justice Deepak Gupta said that orders already issued must be carried out. "We won't tolerate anyone bossing around. We have given the orders and it must be carried out."
