SDMC to crack down on parking contractors found violating terms and conditions

New Delhi: South Delhi Municipal Corporation (SDMC) on Sunday said that it has swung into action after receiving a large number of complaints from people about non-adherence by parking contractors to the terms and conditions mentioned in their approved tender.

Prior to Sunday's decision, senior officers of the Corporation had been deputed to visit parking sites within the jurisdiction of SDMC to see for themselves the nature, frequency and quantum of the complaints referred by the users in various localities.

"SDMC has awarded contract of parking sites under its four zones. It was observed and confirmed by the visiting team that many contractors have not marked six-inch wide strips with thermoplastic paint for the purpose of identification, site map and rate list display are missing at a few sites, the parking slips at all the sites are not being issued through hand held devices and the attendants were not found in the designated dress and they were not displaying their identity cards," said SDMC Standing Committee Chairperson Shikha Rai.

On receipt of the report from the visiting team, the matter was discussed in a meeting chair.

At the meeting, concerns over non-compliance of the instructions by the contractors was expressed.

This, the chairperson observed, is not only resulting in inconvenience to the users of the parking sites but also affecting the revenue of the Corporation.

"It has been decided to discipline the (parking) contractors and remind them about their responsibilities under tender conditions," Rai further said.
