SDMC to be Delhi's first civic body to give free restroom access in hotels

Having given the go-ahead for free usage of toilets and washrooms for women and children at all restaurants and hotels under its jurisdiction a few months ago, South Delhi Municipal Corporation (SDMC) will become the first civic body in the Capital city to execute such a plan Monday onwards.

The SDMC has stated that by making the announcement it has renewed its commitment for Prime Minister's Swachh Bharat Mission and the Lieutenant Governor's desire to provide such facilities for free, keeping in view the safety and security of women in markets.

The Corporation said that the facility shall be reviewed on the basis of the feedback, concerns and practical difficulties faced by the hotels and restaurants during a period.

While appreciating the gesture of the hotels and restaurants industry in gracefully agreeing to provide the facility, SDMC conveyed its gratitude towards the industry.

The Corporation further expressed hope that the implementation of the decision, taken in February this year, as per the directions of LG and finalisation of its nitty grities will be able to provide a sigh of relief to the women in the city.

The facility has no riders except any security concern of the owners.

It may be noted that SDMC Commissioner Puneet Kumar Goel, in tune with the directions of LG, had immediately formulated a plan to provide this facility to women in children in market places in the national Capital.

The decision was then welcomed by the owners of the restaurants and hotels, though they wanted to have specific detailed order in this effect.

It took time to give a practical shape to the decision. A number of meetings with the industry were organised to understand their valuable views in this regard.
