SDMC rolls-out online portal for cell tower licensing

New Delhi: Keeping with its drive to increase transparency and accountability in the way local administrative authorities operate, the South Delhi Municipal Corporation (SDMC) rolled out a new online module, which can now be used to apply for and get licenses to operate or install telecom towers in the Capital.

Given that the SDMC is the nodal agency for all municipal corporations, this new feature has been made available to telecom tower service providers from Friday onwards, which eliminates the requirement for any human interference from the building departments of the respective corporations.

Officials here said that the aim of developing such online applications is to provide a systematic and unified way to get permissions for cell towers in the city. This new system will work for new applications and existing cell towers, according to a statement by the SDMC, which added that under this system, Telecom Tower Service Providers will need to first register themselves with the SDMC or their respective corporations. The new portal will be able to process the entire application for the construction and operation of cell towers online with integrated payment systems in place for issuance of licenses.
