SDMC removes hundreds of illegal properties in 4 zones

New Delhi: In a major drive, South Delhi Municipal Corporation (SDMC) on Tuesday removed hundreds of illegal properties and eastibleshments in four zones. The area where the drive was undertaken included RK Puram, Aurobindo Marg, Greater Kailsah-I, IIT flyover area and other parts of South Delhi. "While complying with the instructions of the Special Task Force (STF) constituted as per the order of the Supreme Court, a massive encroachment removal drive was undertaken in various parts of the city," said an SDMC official.
According to the Corporation officials, in Najafgarh Zone, action was taken for vacating unauthorised fish market, illegal constructions, jhuggies, building material shops over around five-acre land. This government land was vacated in a joint action by an SDM, Tehsildar, Police force, Civil Defence , DDA officers aided by heavy machines. The land having market value of crores of rupees was earmarked for the DDA which has been asked to immediately start wire-fencing of the vacated land.
The Corporation satff reported action at three roads under south Zone. "One Mobile Tower at N-Block GK Part 1 was made fully non-operational by removing back batteries and generator. The action taken by the General Branch at Krishi vihar, Archana Crossing at Joseph Tito Marg, 90 items including motor cycles, compressors, iron chairs, gas cylinders and racks were seized. Under an action at Aurobindo Marg, from Gautam Nagar Mode to IIT Gate, 12 vehicles were impounded and challaned for Rs 13,750," they said.
"From Vivekanad Marg Church RK Puram to Ring Road, 12 Khokhas and 6 tandoors have been demolished and 15 items including 4 iron nets for chickens, 10 wooden counters and one three-wheeler was seized. The drive was undertaken at two roads -- Captain Gaur Marg at Sewa Nagar Chowk and Kotla Mubarakpur and Bhishma Piatamh Marg upto Modi Mill under Central zone. Under West Zone, an action was taken from Uttam Nagar terminal to Dwarka Mode," added the official.
