SDMC, Northern Railway flag off Mosquito Terminator train

New Delhi: In order to combat vector-borne disease, South Delhi Municipal Corporation (SDMC) and Northern Railway on Friday flagged off a Mosquito Terminator train from New Delhi Railway Station. The SDMC Mayor Narendera Chawla along with Commissioner Puneet Kumar Goel and the Divisional Railway Manager RN Singh jointly flagged off the train from platform number-1.

"In order to substantially mitigate the threat of Chikungunya and Dengue in 50 to 60-meter area on both sides of railway tracks insecticide spray will be done from a power sprayers mounted on a truck placed over the train. This is a serious and effective effort to eliminate larvae. The SDMC has provided a huge power sprayer and insecticide for spray in adequate quantity," the Mayor said.

The Commissioner conveyed his thanks to the DRM for obtaining special permission from the higher authorities for running this terminator train. Normally it is difficult to move a wagon loaded with truck i.e. over dimension consignment on the trains. The spray through the terminator train will help in putting an end to larvae and eliminating mosquitoes.

The terminator train moves at a speed of 20 km/ph covering a distance of 150-km in each cycle.

The DRM, RN Singh, described this effort as an example of fruitful cooperation for a specific cause in public interest between the two governmental agencies.
