SDMC launches drive against encroachment, seals 50 shops

New Delhi: The Public Health Department of South Delhi Municipal Corporation (SDMC) on Wednesday launched a drive against encroachment by hawkers.
The drive was undertaken to rule out break out of water-borne diseases. It also sealed around 50 units for creating atmosphere conducive to health diseases and initiated prosecution action against around 2,400 defaulters of health trade licence conditions.
The department conducted raids at 350 locations to remove encroachment by hawkers, unauthorised 'rehries', sugarcane crushers, water trolleys and unauthorized food vendors. As many as 70 sugarcane crushers were seized to prevent water-borne diseases. A total of 2,361 prosecution action have been taken against defaulters violating Health Trade License conditions and creating nuisance and unhygienic condition. As many as 49 units were also sealed or closed including spa, guest houses and eating establishments.
A senior SDMC officer said that police complaint and FIR will be lodged against owners who obtaining online license by submitting fake documents.
