SDMC issues 164 challans for illegal waste burning
New Delhi: In a concerted action against dust and air pollution, the South Delhi Municipal Corporation on Wednesday issued 164 challans, amounting to Rs 1.3 lakh for illegal burning of solid waste, garbage, dry leaves, rubber and unauthorised construction activities in all four of its zones, after having detected dust hotspots in the area and deputing night-patrolling teams to check pollution levels.
In the Central Zone, Okhla has been identified as a major hotspot, whereas areas like Sector 8 (Dwarka) and RK Puram have been identified as possible problem areas for contributing to the increased pollution levels in the city. The SDMC is making use of mobile water sprinklers to settle the dust and also using jetting machines in concentrated spots. Officials here said that each area also has several trucks that remove construction and demolition waste from unauthorised dumping areas.
