SDMC initiates steps to control pollution

New Delhi: South Delhi Municipal Corporation (SDMC) has taken the present level of air pollution and dust in the capital city seriously, hence, it has intensified its action against violations. Mayor Narendra Chawla and Commissioner Puneet Kumar Goel have instructed the officers of all zones to take appropriate action against the violators. Apart from this, a close eye is being kept on the action and its results for which a mechanism has been set up. The Mayor and Commissioner have been personally visiting the site of water tankers and mechanical sweeper functioning for monitoring.

SDMC has hired 57 water tankers for controlling dust and its own 40 water tankers have also being deployed. In all, 97 water tankers have been deployed for this purpose. As many as 18 mechanical road sweepers are also involved in cleaning the road and collecting dust. The water tankers and mechanical sweepers are being deployed as per scheduled. Their operational details are also being monitored.

During last 17 days in all four zones, 106 challans were issued for violations of NGT norms. Under violations of construction activities and air pollution four challans have been issued resulting in fine of Rs 82,900.
