Scaffolding collapse at construction site in Noida claims two labourers

Noida; At least two labourers died while four other sustained minor injuries after the scaffolding at the site of an under-construction building in Sector-132 of Noida collapsed on Monday morning.

Police said the incident took place at around 10.30 am at the site of ATS builder's project 'Bouquet'. The deceased were identified as Murtuza (26) and Sunny (20), residents of West Bengal's Malda district. "Both had been working at the site for the past four months," said a policeman.

Other labourers at the site said a piece of a nearly seven feet wall had collapsed on the scaffolding, bringing it down crashing.

"The scaffolding at one of the 16-storey tower at the site collapsed. Both victims were working on the 14th floor when the scaffolding tumbled. They were trapped in the rubble and it took us some time to dig them out. By then it was too late," said a worker on the site.

Hansraj Bhadoria, SHO, Expressway police station, said, "Police teams rushed to the spot and took the victims to Jaypee Hospital, where they were declared brought dead. The bodies were handed over to their families after post-mortem. We are yet to ascertain to actual reason behind the collapse. We will register a case once a complaint has been received in this regard."

Meanwhile, Getamber Anand, CMD, ATS Infrastructure, said, "There are three towers in the project. The contractor was removing scaffolding from a adjacent tower constructed completely. It is very unfortunate that two workers of the ATS family passed away, in spite of all safety measures. ATS is with the aggrieved family and and is cooperating with the authorities."
