Sashakti self-defence camp held in Dwarka

New Delhi: Delhi Police is now imparting self defence training to more than 1,000 girls belonging to various rural parts of the Capital, under its 'Sashakti' programme.
According to senior officials, girl students of government and private schools, as well as colleges students, are being getting self-defence training as part of 'Sashakti'.
Even working women and nurses from Dwarka district are being trained.
Sources said that so far, as many as 20,000 girls students of different government and private schools of the district have been trained by the Dwarka district police.
"In view of the need to give special consideration to girls of rural areas, this initiative is being taken to rural areas of the Dwarka district. The schools and colleges falling under the jurisdiction of Najafgarh and Chhawla police stations are being approached," said Shibesh Singh, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Dwarka).
On April 18, the programme was conducted in Sarvodaya Kanya Vidyalaya, Deenpur, where 1,000 girl students of the school were imparted self defense Training.
The programme concluded on Saturday and the girl students demonstrated self defence techniques in the school compound, in the presence of senior police officials.
Singh noted the importance of self defense techniques for girls, stating that every girl should live without fear.
"When the girl is in trouble, she can help herself with these," said the DCP.
