Sanitisers, masks become new weapon of Delhi cops

NEW DELHI: Sanitisers, masks and thermometers have now become Delhi Police's new weapons, which are now being used on criminals after apprehending them. Meanwhile, other police officers are using informing people about the status of their cases via phone.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (Shahdara) Dinesh Kumar Gupta said that after arresting any criminal they are using thermometers to check their temperature. "Police personnel have been told to use masks, sanitisers and ensure proper hygiene and cleanliness," he said.

Meanwhile, DCP (Central) Sanjay Bhatia said they are ensuring proper medical checkups for arrested criminals. "We use sanitisers and thermometer on them," he said. When asked whether they are calling suspects for questioning in various cases, he said that they are coming to the police station but they have to go through proper screening before interacting with any police officials.

"There is a washbasin installed at the police station. After proper hand wash and thermometer check, people are allowed to enter the premises," he said. Another DCP rank officer said that they are providing arrested persons masks to ensure the safety of all.

Meanwhile, an Additional CP rank officer said that they are encouraging people to avoid coming to the police station. "I have been informing people about the status of their cases through phone," he said.

Meanwhile, Delhi Police Commissioner SN Srivastava has asked all DCPs to arrange masks and sanitisers in sufficient numbers and provide the same for the police personnel. "As desired by Commissioner of Police, all police personnel having a direct interface with the public at large are advised to use masks and frequently use sanitiser to thwart any threat of COVID-19," reads the message which was sent to DCPs.

According to police, they are also ensuring cleanliness inside the police barracks.

"In view of prevailing scenario, all police stations and barracks are being fumigated," police said.
