Same agency to repair roads after digging: Jain

NEW DELHI: All the roads of the Capital should be repaired by the same agency which has dug it for any kind of work. Earlier, only PWD or MCDs got the authorisation to repair these roads which used to take a long time, asserted Satyendar Jain. "Lieutenant Governor of Delhi Anil Baijal has approved the scheme and the repairing of the roads will become faster," said Jain.
The minister explained that the government had earlier received various complaints that the repairing of roads takes a lot of time due to communication between various agencies. "The main digging works are done by DJB or electricity department but after the work, they need to contact either PWD or the MCD for the repairing. For this, the cost of the whole projects become very high as the government pays for different agencies. But now the same agency will be responsible," Jain added.
The PWD minister said that recently for work in Saraswati Vihar, the Delhi government gave Rs 40,000 lakh to the DJB but after the project to repair the roads by the PWD it cost nearly Rs 1 crore 65 lakh. "These things should be stopped. I approached the LG regarding this matter and explained the problem; the LG has agreed to our proposal," he said.
According to the government officials, this project will help the government in finishing various works which are going on to protect the city from the water logging in the monsoon season. The Public Works Department (PWD), Delhi Government, will carry out strengthening of several roads and construct drains in various areas in the city before the beginning of monsoon season. These works come before the commencement of the rainy season during which the city often witnesses water logging on roads.
The department has approved nearly Rs 4.93 crore for executing the work of strengthening of roads and construction of footpaths and drains in various areas.
The administrative approval has been given for strengthening of various roads, footpaths and drains at the Authority Road, Janakpuri, strengthening of Vedic Marg from Tihar Crossing to the community hall, 82 Block Sabzi Mandi Road, Najafgarh to Rajouri Garden (A-71) among others. The official said tenders will soon be invited for executing the works under the approved cost. "It will also be ensured that all payments to contractors should be made through digital mode," the official said. The chief engineer will submit quarterly monitoring report of the projects, the official added. Ahead of the monsoon, the PWD has set a target to complete the de-silting works by June 15.
