Saket SHO lands in CBI net for accepting `2 lakh bribe

New Delhi: The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on Tuesday arrested Station House Officer (SHO) of Saket police station and an advocate in an alleged bribery case.

The agency has also registered an FIR against nine accused - eight individuals and realty major Unitech. Delhi Police has claimed that it will take strict administrative action against the accused cop.

According to CBI, a case was registered on July 31 against all the accused. "It is alleged that the accused in conspiracy with each other were involved in demand, provision and acceptance of illegal gratification," said CBI spokesperson. The officials said it is alleged that the firm was giving money to the SHO to 'manage' these cases. Apart from Kumar, an advocate identified as Neeraj Wali has also been arrested. The premier investigating agency also booked Sanjay Sharma (another police official), Ramesh Chandra (Unitech founder), Ajay Chandra, Upma Chandra, Seema Manga, Pradeep Kumar and Unitech and others.

"It is also alleged that the issue was to show undue favour for settlement of cases registered against directors and owners of the said private firm," said the spokesperson.

On the basis of an information, CBI laid a trap and caught the Saket SHO and the advocate while transacting the bribe of Rs 2 lakh. Searches are being conducted at various locations in Delhi at the residential and official premises of the accused.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (South) Romil Baaniya stated that he came to know about the case on Tuesday after the raid and the department will take action against the SHO.

"The cop has been placed under suspension and strict administrative action will be taken against the SHO," the DCP added. Earlier in April, CBI had arrested a Sub Inspector (SI) of Delhi Police posted at Khajuri Khas police station for demanding and accepting a bribe of Rs one lakh from the complainant.

He was arrested after a trap was laid and the SI was caught red-handed while demanding and accepting a bribe from the complainant.
