RSS to increase shakhas in Delhi, to focus on youth

Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) on Friday claimed that its popularity among the youth is increasing and it will intensify its work with greater focus on samajik samarasta (social harmony) and youth this year.
RSS joint president of Delhi unit Alok Kumar said: "53 percent of the total participants in daily shakhas of RSS are students. At present, 57,185 shakhas are being organised daily at 36,729 locations across India. 90 percent of the participants in these shakhas are below 45."

The number of shakhas is also expected to rise over the next few months.

The Sangh also claimed that in the past year, 1.04 lakh swayamsevaks had attended the Prathamik Shiksha Varg, a seven-day course which is the first step towards shaping of swayamsevak as a more committed volunteer.

In Delhi, RSS has 1,805 shakhas and the number is expected to shoot up by 15 percent in the next year. Around 462 service projects are being run by swayamsevaks, which focus on empowerment people from slums and marginalised sections of the society.

A special youth festival 'Udaan' was organised in more than 40 colleges, which held events such as street plays, short films and creative writing contests.
