In a daring heist reported from the city, a group of burglars, in the wee hours of Sunday, robbed the house of a former village head situated in Gadoli village.
The burglars stole over 80 tolas of gold, four kilograms of silver and cash worth Rs 5 lakh from the house.
It is believed that around five-six robbers were involved in the theft. The images of the robbers were caught in the CCTV cameras at the house.
A complaint was registered at the Sector 10 police station and city police have begun a search to nab the robbers.
According to police officials, the robbery took place around 2.00 am on Sunday.
As the house is situated on the main road, the burglars used the noise in the area to their advantage to enter the house stealthily and broke the lock of the main gate.
After entering the house, the burglars locked the rooms of the occupants of the house.
The burglars then raided the almirahs and cupboards, where all valuables had been stored, including gold, silver and hard cash.
After spending around an hour in the house, the burglars escaped by on foot from the house without anyone noticing.
Commenting on the case, a senior police official said: "We have begun the search operations to nab the robbers and we hope to be successful soon. The image of the robbers has been caught in the CCTV device and this could be an effective lead. It seems that the robbers knew the victims personally and knew where all the assets were kept."
